Monster High... The new Barbie.

Barbie... every little girl plays with her. Well, in 2010, some genius decided to make the Barbie "cool" and "scary". With all these vampire and zombie movies, it was perfect timing to introduce these monstrous Barbie things.

Who thought of this?
Monster High is a fashion doll franchise created by Mattel in July 2010. The characters are inspired by monster movies, sci-fi horror, and thriller fiction therefore distinguishing them from most fashion dolls. They were created by Garrett Sander, with illustrations by Kellee Riley.[2] Barbie and Monster High are both made by Mattel, but despite this they are said to be competing in the marketplace. The Monster High franchise also includes other consumer products such as stationery, bags, key chains, various toys and video games. There are also Monster High TV specials, a web series, a direct to DVD movie, and software. Lisi Harrison is the author of the Monster High young adult novel series, the first of which was released in late 2010. The characters are depicted as being either related to or as offspring of famous monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Mummy, Medusa, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Phantom of the Opera, and zombies.

Does it even matter? Every girl owns at least one I'm sure of it! And my daughter, well, she owns like, ALL OF THEM! She got into these dolls in 2012.

There’s a large range of Monster High related clothing for kids. But what about us adults? My daughter would love me to match her and promote monster high fashion.
Hot Topic is a clothing store that specializes in punk rock and pop culture related items. Why am I spending time on this blog talking about a clothing shop?  Because they have two really cool Monster High shirts for sale in adult sizes!

As you know, my daughter has recently turned 7 years old and HAD to HAVE a MONSTER HIGH Party. She wanted it at the Houston Galleria Ice Skating Rink and had an amazing time, as we all did! My best friend as always, makes my children's cakes if my aunt isn't able to. I found my other ideas via pinterest. Below are a few photos showing her Monster High party success.

Here is an article from the Huffington Post that speaks on these Monster High Barbies. Is it really a big issue that these Barbies are not the norm dolls little girls are used to play with? Are they really a bad influence? I'm not sure I agree. My daughter loves them not because they are monsters (and she really doesn't care) but because they are different, but because they are different and she can have fashion shows, change their image to what she wants them to look like, and learn that just because you are different you too are liked.
