Houston’s Top 6 Family Friendly Events This Fall

My family and I LOVE the fall. And when fall comes around, we are ready to celebrate all that comes along with it. We love family events and activities. These are a list of our favorite family friendly events and places we try to attend come October, excluding the last... #6, we are trying this one out for the first time this year! Can't wait!

1. Zoo Boo at the Houston Zoo (October 11-13, 18-20, 25-27)

Have you ever wanted to howl like a howler monkey? Do you know what howler monkeys eat? Learn this and more at Howlerween at the Wortham World of Primates.
Kids can follow the adventures of Zoe the Zookeeper as she helps wildlife officials in Belize rehabilitate and release howler monkeys rescued from the pet trade. With their Field Researcher’s Guide and logbook, kids will learn what howler monkeys look like, what they sound like, what they eat and how to spot them in the wild. Schedule of Activities

2. The Children's Museum (Halloween's Haunted Museum- October 12-31)
Parents Magazine has named the Children's Museum of Houston one of the 10 Best Children's Museum for many reasons and in October, the Children's Museum adds just one more reason for parents, families and children to love it.

3. Boo, On the Kemah Boardwalk(October1-31)
One place you may want to take your family to get into the Halloween "spirit" is Boo on the Boardwalk, located right outside Houston and on the Kemah Boardwalk.
Boo on the Boardwalk offers: 
  • The "Dungeon of Doom" haunted house
  • "spooktacular" entertainment (including live bands)
  • costume contests 
  • trick or treating
  • pumpkin decorating
Special Event:  Oct. 22 and 29 Children's Costume Contest at 5 pm with prizes to the 10 best costumes.


4. Dewberry Farm (Open to the public on weekends Only, September 28-November 10)

Take the family there to tour the working farm, milk a pretend cow, feed the goats and meet baby chicks and rabbits. There is bouncing and driving, sliding and climbing and even a farm themed open playground area. Get "lost" in the corn maze, take a hayride to the fields and pick your own pumpkin to take home to decorate. 

5. Scream on the Green at Discovery Green (October 31)

Scream on the Green is the annual free citywide Halloween celebration and costume contest at Discovery Green, offering the best Halloween party for the whole family. Adults, children, babies and even dogs are judged in the costume contests with best  dressed winners going home with terrific prizes, including $250 IKEA Houston gift cards, tickets to The Ice at Discovery Green, or tickets to the Houston Grand Opera. Even pets can take home treats! 

6. Texas Renaissance Festival (October 12-December 1)
The Texas Renaissance Festival welcomes all ages to experience the magic and adventure throughout the village. The spirit of the Festival draws the child within all ages to come out and play!  While the Festival caters to all ages, there are some enjoyments that are appropriate for even the youngest of our guests.  Here are some enjoyments to amaze, inspire, and enhance the experience of the Festival appropriate for the very young or those who want to let their inner child out for a day. Fun for Kids!
